Victoria’s regional travel voucher scheme
Victoria’s Tourism Minister, Martin Pakula has recently announced finer details of the $24m regional tourism travel voucher scheme that formed part of the government’s $465m Victorian Tourism Recovery package, announced when the Victorian Budget was outlined recently.
The $24m budget commitment will be delivered in three tranches, the firstcovering a travel period from 12 December 2020 – 22 January 2021where forty thousand $200 vouchers will be on offer to eligible travellers.
To access these vouchers, travellers will need to spend $400 or more on tours or accommodation(food and beverage spend will not be eligible). Applicantswill be required to produce evidence (such as receipts) at the request of the Victorian Government.
Victorians must also travel within regional Victoria to be eligible (region to region travel OK too), with the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula again considered part of regional Victoria, in the context of this scheme.
It is expected that the first funding tranche might be oversubscribed, particularly given travel that has already been booked across the relevant travel period is also eligible. Subsequent second and third rounds of funding tranches (40,000 vouchers each time) will be activated on January 20 and March 30, 2021.
The program works on a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis and each round will close once all places have been filled for that particular round.
Applications open at 10am, Friday 10 December and can be made here
A summary of key dates is included below:
* this is an approximate figure, slightly more or less may be issued subject to the number of applicants that are deemed eligible to receive a voucher
